Ideas for a vehicle maintenance tracking solution

hello dorks,

i’m writing a vehicle maintenance tracker in golang, but would like to get an idea as to what features are good to include / exclude. here’s what i’ve got so far

  • work log supporting odometer tracking, categorization (fluids, parts, etc), and different types of work (maintenance, repair, modifications)
  • planned service log for items on regular intervals like fluid changes, maintenance items, and inspections
  • fuel log for fuel economy tracking and as a way to keep the odometer data up to date for maintenance intervals

I could see the appeal of a digital folder of sorts for having a central place not just for maintenance or owner manuals, but also to have a copy of “lesser” important documents like receipts, invoices, et al. (the “greater” being past registration or insurance proofs which should be kept somewhere a bit safer™)

agreed on digital copies of “lesser” important documents, i have so many multi-page reports from the dealership i go to (even from an oil change)

(surely a local shop chain like evans here would be cheaper than a dealer unless your car’s still under warranty)
